VW debut engine 1.5 TSI

Block the new generation of petrol variants available with 130 and 150 hp, brings a variable geometry turbo.

Volkswagen introduced a new petrol engine four-cylinder 1.5 TSI. The EA211 TSI evo will initially be available with power leads 130 and 150 hp. This engine has the particularity of having a variable geometry turbo. The new unit is 10% more restrained in consumption compared to the former 1.4 TSI with 125 hp, according to the brand. The available maximum torque is 200 Nm at 1300 rpm, the 130 hp version. The compression ratio is 12.5: 1, with the engine running at Miller combustion cycle.

The outer zone of the cylinder 150 hp version of the aluminum housing has an atmospheric plasma spray coverage, which reduces the friction on the piston rings and reduces heat dissipation compared with the cast iron casing. The cylinder head was also modified by adjusting the angle of the valves and the combustion chamber as well as possible for the Miller cycle. The exhaust manifold is integrated into the cylinder head, while the cylinder deactivation function has been enhanced and will be available in all versions.

This engine debuts the fourth-generation direct injection system, with a 350 bar injection pressure. The higher pressure allows substantially reduce particulate emissions. Briefly - from the end of the year - the evo EA211 engine will be integrated into the VW Golf, Skoda Octavia, Seat Leon and Audi A3, replacing the 1.4 TSI.
